Coachella Valley Music Festival 2005 (Review)
Well here is my first ever concert review so here goes. My friends and I arrived around 11:30am, just after the doors opened. The weather was pretty damn nice compared to 2002. So we made it through the line pretty quick and walked around checking out the place. We first head over to the Saraha tent and checked out DJ Jun. It's the first time I've seen him and he had some pretty cool beats.
We then headed over to the Mojave tent and watched this band called Midlake, which were okay. They played mostly slow/mellow music, sounding very similar to the Coldplay style. We then moved over to the Gobi tent where Zion I, a hip hop duo, was performing. They had a really good set, spitting a lot of fast and dope rhymes.
After that, we headed back to the main stage where a very weird band I've never heard of called Gram Rabit was playing. They passed out these funny rabbit ears to wear, which I thought was kind of funny. Their music was weird, but interesting. The lead singer was some blonde and she was probably the highlight of their set. :p Later, we catched the Bravery in the Mojave tent, who I thought played a really good set. They had some trouble with the equipment after their first song, but after a few minutes and playing a U2 cover, they started playing thier music again.
After grabbing a bite to eat and relaxing for a while, we went over to the Gobi tent to watch the man, DJ Z-Trip, perform his set. This was my first time seeing him perform and I thought his set was really cool. What I liked especially about his set is how he diversifies his music from playing old school dance to rock, such as Audioslave, and to Marvin Gaye. After watching his set, we left for the main stage to watch New Order perform. I've never seen New Order live either and I thought their set was okay. Not to disrespect or anything, but they've obviously been around a long time now and I think they just like to play their music now, without putting to much energy into it. So after watching them for about 40 minutes, my friend and I decide to leave early to make sure we get a good spot for the Prodigy. So we left my friend and his g/f and headed back to the Sahara tent to wait with anticipation.
While waiting for the Prodigy, we watched Armin Van Buuren and Roni Size with Dynamite MC. I've never seen either but I liked both of their sets. Especially Roni Size who's beats are almost nonstop, but a little repetitive (hehe). So that was pretty much the whole day. Now let's get into what you really want to see; Prodigy! So finally the time has come. Prodigy's set looks good, the anticipation is running in the air and we're ready to go! Out comes Liam, salutes the crowd, and get's behind his equipment. Now I don't remember the exact order of the songs, even though I was planning to write them down. But I had no time for that because while I was taking pictures, I was trying to survive the crowd! At least I managed to get to the very front. Still, I'll list the songs I remember and the order I believe they were in. So I was expecting them to start with Wake Up Call like they've done lately but to my surprise, they start with good old Their Law. The crowd is going totally wild and everybody is jumping.
Next Wake Up Call ends up being the second track. This song sounds really cool live with the mad bass kicking everybody in the ass. Next I believe was Breathe. Everyone here of course knows this song and gets the crowd jumping. Maxim and Keith are totally into it, pushing one another and jumping all over the stage. Warning, one of the new live tracks, follows and is my first time hearing it. It sounds exactly as I've heard on the live videos and I'm loving it.
They then follow with a new song I've haven't heard before. It sounds totally fast with hard beats. I don't know if they've played this one at previous shows, but I don't think I've heard any reports about it. But I liked it...I liked it a lot!  Whatever it was, I hope they keep playing it so we can get a live recording of it. Hopefully someone did record it. So next up is the classic Firestarter. This is probably the one that got them big here in the U.S. so of course everyone knows it. This version was the new remixed live version that they've been playing though. Sounds really cool live and I like it. Then they play a sort of fill with Action Radar. It's not the actual whole song, but Keith is singing "a little action is all I need" over and over again.
After that, Spitfire begins with Juliette Lewis' voice soothing the crowd. The hard beats come crashing down and Maxim and Keith tear the house down. During this one, Keith was making me laugh my ass off! He was jumping around and falling to the ground. I was first like, "why the heck is he doing that?!" But then it hit me, he's doing exactly what they did in the Spitfire video, which was get blown away and fly off the ground. Haha, it was so funny to see Keith doing that. Even security was like "what the hell??" Another thing to, man did Keith drool like a dog! I think his shirt by the end of the night was not wet from sweat, but from all his dam saliva!
Next I believe was another new live track they've been playing. I don't know the name and I'm not sure where they've played it before, but I think I remember hearing it somewhere on the net. I'm not sure if someone had uploaded a sample of it, but it sort of has this middle eastern sound with really catchy and funky beats. If anyone knows where they've played this song before, email me because I want to know. Anyway, they follow up with Mindfields and by now, I'm really damn tired but still have enough energy to finish the show. One other thing I thought was really funny was Maxim fooling with the security. He'd get next to this on security guard (right by his ear) and start rap the lyrics. He would also splash water from his water bottle at the crowd, and then throw some on this security guard and make this funny face, as if he was waiting to see if the security guard would turn around or do something. Haha, classic. After Mindfields, the guys thanked the crowd for coming and they left the set.
With the set lights still, they leave the set for about a minute and of course you know they're coming back for an encore. They get back into it with Smack My Bitch Up. I think this one was the crowd favorite. Next up is Poison. By this time I'm getting pounded on the head by the damn crowd surfers. I saw one girl go in and out by crowd surfing about three times! Keith also came down to the crowd, practically right in front of me and I managed to grab me some of that Keith! Haha...but security quickly pulled everyone off him. Finally the set comes to end with, oh yes, Out of Space!
This would definitely be my first ever hearing this song live. The song gets a really good response from the crowd. So the show finally comes to an end. I'm sad to see them go, but happy to be alive! j/k I felt this performance definitely topped their 2002 Coachella. Hopefully they'll come back to Coachella again in a couple of years. Or if not, at least through their own tour. One thing I have to say was how surprised I was to the crowd reaction and more so to the crowd interaction because many people seemed to know the lyrics to most songs. I guess these people were not just common and were there to really see them. I think I even saw Neko but I'm still not sure. I'll get back to you on that one. To sum up, kick ass show! The end.

Cкорее всего это спец. программа для фестивалей, т.к. организаторы часто ограничивают время концерта в рамках 40-60 мин. (это из-за огромного числа участников).
