NOTES:
As expected, security were performing thorough bag and body searches on the
door this evening. I never carry a bag, so it was just a question of how
thoroughly I was going to get touched up on my way in.
Happily, I made it inside with my equipment and, after getting wired up (with
mics, not drugs) in the toilet, headed into the hall to await the entrance of
the support band, Enter Shikari. The recording of their performance is
available here:

Suitably warmed up by Enter Shikari, the densely packed hall awaited the
arrival of The Prodigy with bated breath. Shortly after 21:00, they came on to
'Take That' by Wiley feat. Chew Fu, which I've had to remove, due to its being
a commercially released track.
With the first notes of 'Worlds On Fire', the hall erupted into mental dance.
The location I'd picked, at the far left of the stage, a few metres back from
the PA stack, is usually far enough away from the centre that I can avoid the
moshing mayhem and tape in peace. Not so tonight: the entire hall went
ballistic and it was all I could do to remain on my feet. I don't think there
was anyone standing, but not dancing.
I had anticipated this somewhat, but the sound was clearly better in this
location, rather than, say, at the back of the house in front of the sound
desk. Firmly believing in the motto 'Better an excellent recording or no
recording than a mediocre one", I chose to take up position in the exposure
zone.
I held my ground pretty well, but things got particularly violent when the
band started playing 'Omen'.
Unfortunately, my recorder must have received a jab from someone's elbow,
hitting the 'stop' button at 01:07 into the song. Because of the unrelenting
jostling that was going on, I was checking my equipment at frequent intervals,
so I noticed the problem after a couple of minutes and quickly started
recording again. I estimate that somewhere between two and three minutes of
'Omen' are missing as a result. Apologies for this.
There's not much I can tell you about the gig that you won't glean for
yourself by listening to the recording. The sound in the Heineken Music Hall
this evening was really good. It can be muddy sometimes, but it was well above
par on this occasion. This is in evidence on the recording, which is crisp and
clear throughout the spectrum.
The band were in fantastic form. The energy pouring off the stage was
incendiary. No wonder no-one could keep still, except for a few corpses all
the way at the back, sitting on chairs. Maxim addressed them a couple of
times, imploring them to 'Stand the fuck up!'
The highlight for me was an organ-throbbing, rib-jiggling rendition of
'Poison', my favourite Prodigy track. The whole building heaved to the beat of
the music.
At 03:43 into 'Their Law', you'll hear an almighty crackle and fizz come from
the PA. That's the sound of some essential piece of equipment, possibly even
the PA itself, going supernova under the seismic load that had been placed on
it this evening. The snap, crackle and pop of the PA effectively marked the
end of 'Their Law', which, in any case, didn't appear to have long left to go.
Maxim tried to shout a few final words to the audience, but his mic had lost
amplification and his voice was all but lost in the roaring crowd. You can
just about hear him at the end of 'Their Law' if you crank up the volume.
With that, the band left the stage and the house lights came up, bringing a
stunned audience back to earth.
This was truly a mind and speaker blowing evening!
As usual with my recordings, no mastering has taken place. You're hearing it
the way I did, minus the missing middle part of 'Omen'.

Весьма знатное качество для записи через микрофон по воздуху - неплохо человек постарался. засеров нет. Звук только плавает иногда заметно, но это мелочи. Для не проф записи почти лайв-бутлег. Спасибо всем кто заливал и перезаливал.

Там звучат барабаны Лео, и очень тихо всё остальное. По звуку видно что скорее всего, под конец выступления сдохла колонка, от которой вели запись. Барабаны получается, звучали громче так как они просто были где-то рядом с человеком, записывающим шоу на микрофон, ну а остальное тише - так как звук из ближайшей активной колонки микрофон плохо поймал (колонка далеко была) |
