Respect to all Romanian fans that came out last night! Its been over a month since we played our last gig so the buzz to get on that stage and show Romania we came to throw it down was strong! It was 2009 when we were there last and people came out to represent, true warriors!
The live show fuels us to get in the studio and so do the fans. All things are movin good on the studio front and watchin Glastonbury last week made me hungry to get back on stage with new tunes and to show people how its really done!
Oh on another note im putting on my first art exhibition in london. I thought it was about time i had the balls to let people see the shit i do in my spare time!!
If any 1 into art feel free to roll down and check it out!!
Peace

Респект всем Румынским фанам которые были прошлым вечером! Последний раз мы играли более месяца назад и было сильное желание выйти на сцену и показать Румынии что мы пришли взорвать. В последний раз мы были в 2009 и люди снова пришли, настоящие войны!
Концерты заставили нас вернуться в студию [and so do the fans???].

mm interview with Stuart Semple:
@mm: how are you feeling about the new paintings? You excited or nervous?
> @StuartSemple: A bit of both. I’m very excited about my art and the
exhibition, but then a bit nervous. It’s all good as a bit of nervous energy
keeps you on top of your game.
If you get complacent in anything you do, you may lose your spark – that
hunger that makes you want to create.
>
> @mm: the thing I really love about them is that super glossy resin you coat
> everything in. Was it hard to perfect?
> @StuartSemple: Well, there was a lot of experimenting to get the right finish.
I use different techniques in the finishes and am still experimenting!
I did lose a lot of paintings through using the wrong resins and after a
couple of days the paintings went cloudy.
>
> @mm: the works are so violent, yet so pretty, why do you think they are so
> psychologically dark?
> @StuartSemple: The paintings are dark, it’s just the way I express
myself, I like creating sinister moods. But on another level, they have a
beauty I like – I find them deep in meaning.
I have tried to paint with brighter colours and they came out terrible,
and the paintings just didn’t work for me.
>
> @mm: they remind me of that Freudian idea of childhood beating… Like how
> kids pull legs off spiders or stamp on snails?
> @StuartSemple: Ha ha that’s one way of psychoanaylysing me! I hate to
see kids kill insects, when we have spiders in our house I would rather pick
them up and throw them out, than kill them!
But in my paintings there are many ways to look at the paintings – as
sacrifice, revenge, duty, freedom, solidarity, courage and strength all play
a part.
>
> @mm: when you are on stage it’s very much about you, with painting the work
> has to perform for you?
> @StuartSemple: It’s very similar – as you are putting your emotions
out there for everyone to see. The stage is one way you translate the music
to the people, and with painting you translate your thoughts through paint.
>
> @mm: does making your art feel anything like recording a track? I mean your
> music studio has turned into an art studio?
> @StuartSemple: I get the same satisfaction out of producing art as I
do writing music. I am very lucky that both things I enjoy most are under
the same roof. As you know my music studio is right next to my art studio.
>
> @mm: its interesting that the work is obviously yours, I guess wether writing
> a tune or performing the creative spark is the same it just appears in
> different formats?
> @StuartSemple: Yes I agree, I find it liberating. I switch from music to
painting all the time.
>
> @mm: I know you set fire to the ones you don’t like, do you ever regret it?
> @StuartSemple: No regrets!! This is something I have learnt over the
years. Very often I have had half finished songs that I said I would go back
to, but I have always written something better and never gone back.
It’s the same with painting. I think if it isn’t working, destroy it and
move on! Never go backwards – always move forwards.
>
>
> @mm: you’ve been working on them for a while, it’s got to be well over a year
> since you showed me the first ones, it feels like the work is evolving and
> moving all the time?
> @StuartSemple: The work is moving fast! I believe that when you are excited
and show love for something, creativity flows fast.
>
>
> @mm: what are you hoping people will take away from the exhibition?
> @StuartSemple: I hope that people will leave the exhibition with the
same feeling you get after you have seen a great film at the cinema, and a
sense of me. And as you know, some artworks are for sale, but not all of
them, as the ones that are special to me I will never sell.

The Prodigy's Maxim Reality stages debut art show
The MC has turned his creative flare to painting and opens his debut art exhibition under the alias MM this week. Matilda Battersby hears about his penchant for chopping things up
Maxim in his studio
This is the first exhibition I’ve ever had. I’m a bit nervous, I don’t really know what to expect. When you’re in a band you’re surrounded by mates. But for this, the focus is on me. It makes me feel a bit naked. I’m exposing myself to people by hanging my thoughts upon the walls. It’s the criticism that’s scary.
Nobody likes bad criticism, do they? But it can be useful. People commonly describe my work as “dark”. Which is fair, because I paint mainly in greys and blacks. I can’t really paint in reds, yellows, light blues, greens. Dark, sinister, moody are the words that people use to describe my paintings.
I’ve been painting for about 11 years. I was using acrylics mostly, trying to catch textures and different colours in the sky. Landscapes, that sort of thing. No figures or shapes that you could recognise exactly. But I went to New York and I met quite a few artists who opened my eyes to different techniques and made me realise that art isn’t just about acrylics and oils.
I don’t see myself as someone who can paint and draw. I’m not that kind of artist. I’ll admit it, I can’t draw to save my life. I used to be able to, when I was younger but I can’t now. I probably would be able to if I practised and practised, but that’s not really my thing. I like to use images and manipulate them and tweak them. To put the head of a horse onto the body of sheep or something. Something mad.
The butterfly pictures came about because I saw a moth in my music studio. I caught it and threw it out of the window (I don’t like killing things) and it suddenly dawned on me I had no idea what the insect was thinking. When you touch a butterfly in your hand, is that butterfly thinking “Get the f*** off me” or “If I had a knife I’d cut your finger off”. Some people don’t find them beautiful. They look at their insect bodies and they find them grotesque. In the paintings I give them samurai swords and that kind of thing so they can express themselves.
There was this girl who modelled for me and I basically chopped her body up. Not in the real sense obviously. You’re not going to find a dead woman under my patio. But imagery-wise I like to manipulate them to make them into something else. I’ve actually said to models in the past: “Don’t worry about what you look like now because you might not even have a head when I’ve finished with you. You might just end up as a pair of breasts.” I just like to take images somewhere else. I think most ideas are basically plagiarism. You have to take something which exists and turn it into something new.
The reason I started painting was because I needed some art for my bare walls at home. I went to some affordable art fairs and there were some nice paintings for a lot of money. But I looked at them and thought: “I can do that”. Obviously, that was the first step. Having the belief that I could do it.
The Prodigy are recording another album at the moment so it’s perfect timing for me. I’ve taken a couple of weeks off to do the art. In some respects it works hand in hand because you don’t do music constantly. You do it for two or three days and then you have a break. So it gives me time to do art and then go back into the studio. It’s a good balance. Another outlet for my creativity.
